Notice to Patients!
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your patience and tolerance during this difficult period in everyone’s lives and hope you are all keeping well!
The Scottish Government has recently announced the return to ‘normal ‘dentistry on the NHS from the 1st Nov 2020.
The Dental Profession was not made aware of this development prior to the announcement and this has led to a great deal of understandable confusion both from patients and Dentists alike!
In reality we are still a long way from ‘normal’ dentistry and this is due to Government imposed restriction limiting our ability to deliver your normal dental care during the Covid 19 pandemic!
Social distancing and limitations on the supply of PPE (which is controlled by the Scottish Government), mean we can only see less than 25% of the patient numbers that we saw pre-Covid!
Scottish Government has since announced that it will not be ‘business as usual ‘but that from the 1st of
November 2020 there will be a reinstatement of many of the treatments previously available on the NHS and that patient charges will return.
As you may be aware, we were very reluctant to close the Practice at the beginning of the Pandemic.
This meant we were unable to fully deal with acute issues locally and patients had to be referred to the Urgent dental care Hubs leading to delays and in many cases unnecessary suffering!
We have been open again since June when the restrictions were eased and have been providing a full emergency service since then, with 2 dentists full time each day seeing the maximum number of patients allowed within the restrictions!
From the 1st of November 2020 we will be able to complete some treatments that are outstanding and finalize new treatments rather than use temporary measures that we have been limited to!
Please be aware however that we have NO increased capacity in relation to the number of treatment slots available and as such treatments will by necessity still be prioritized in relation to their emergency/acute nature!
We have been seeing some routine checkups and attempting to see as many patients as possible when available appointments allow.
We are also continuing to carry out some Private treatments, again as appointments allow!
You might be interested to know that a recent review of worldwide data has shown that dentistry and and the spread of Covid 19 do not appear to be linked and as such we feel we have been, and continue to be a very safe environment!
I would like to reassure you that we will continue to work at the fullest capacity that we are allowed, to support your dental needs and thank you once again for your continued patience.
Please contact the practice to make an appointment or if you need any further guidance!
Here’s to better times
